Have you also wondered whether it is best to eat before or after exercise?  Or whether you should have your sports drink before or after exercise?

In terms of how food works:  carbohydrates are digested into energy within a short span of time.  Therefore, when you need an energy boost, your body will need carbohydrates.  Eating a small portion of carbohydrates before exercise is useful as it will help your body to perform at its best during exercise.  Examples are a small banana, 50-100ml fruit juice, or a few sips of your , or a small portion of carbohydrate rich energy drink.
