attentive eatingDo you find yourself eating on the run?  Or sitting in front of the TV when you eat?  Eating at your desk at lunchtime?  And so the list can go on.  The question is in fact: what else are you doing while you are eating?

Most of us find ourselves in a position of multi-tasking; even so when we are eating.  The flip side of this is that causes you to eat more!  This is simply because when your attention is not on your food and eating, you are less aware of how much you are taking in.  A study from Harvard University also showed that your process might be 30 to 40 percent less effective if your mind is tuned out (or onto something else). This can contribute to difficulties such as gas, bloating and bowel irregularities.

Attentive eating does not necessarily mean being attent on what foods are on your plate (although this is off course also very important and a healthy eating plan is explained in detail in our Weight Loss section on www.shapelife.co.za/blog), but being aware of the experience of what you are eating.  What are you tasting, are you enjoying it, how is your body reacting to it?

Being more attentive to our food will heighten your enjoyment of the food and also help you to get to know your body better – sensing when you are getting full or what is making you feel heavy and tired.
