Following a healthy eating plan will provide you with the energy you need to recover from delivery and to breastfeed successfully.  Good nutrition, combined with regular exercise, will help you to return to a healthy weight after pregnancy.

While breastfeeding it is no time to embark on a low fat, low calorie diet.  Your body needs extra calories and fluids during lactation, with the recommended daily allowance of nutrition’s for lactating women including:

• 6-11 servings of bread, cereal, pasta, rice

• 2-4 servings of fruit

• 3-5 servings of vegetables

• 2-3 servings of meat, fish, poultry, eggs

• 2-3 servings of mild or other dairy products

• Up to three liters of water a day

If you aren’t eating in this way, you may want to consider a supplement.
