In a world of refined sugars and carbohydrate, the harder (yet better) choice to make is towards wholegrain foods.  These foods can reduce your risk of developing high blood pressure (according to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition).  This study was done over an extended period of 18 years, and followed 32 000 subjects.  The results of the study was that those individuals who ate the most whole grains (about 46g per day) were 19% less likely to be diagnosed with hypertension than those who ate least (about 3g per day).

Wholegrain contains potassium and fibre, both important products in the regulation of your blood pressure.  The higher the fibre content of the product, it also makes it lower on the glyceamic index.  Therefore, the food will provide you with more sustainable and help keep your blood pressure more stable.
