This could therefore be construed as the normal weight range. But there is a vast range difference between a BMI of 19 and 24.5! Where you are at your healthiest and best is not just a number, but also a general state of wellbeing. For instance, you could be very lean and feel fantastic, even if your BMI is under 18; and not experience any of the typical symptoms of being underweight. If you are feeling dizzy or fatigued, even when on diet, you are not eating enough and your body is undernourished.
Another, equally complicated, measure is to restrict yourself to a certain calorie intake. The amount of calories you need depend on a number of factors, including your age, activity level and lean body mass. Allthough a rough weekly calorie intake can serve as a great guideline, following it to the letter could also not be what is best for you.
I think to a large extent many of us have started to follow this ‘presciption’ of what would be normal for our bodies and have unlearnt your body’s voice of when it is doing well and when not.

Recently I read an interesting statement in a leading health magazine. According to research, ladies who stay with their boyfriend or share a place with a friend tend to gain more weight than those who are living on their own. And then in the next issue of this magazine, there is a whole article about our friends making us fat and that we are 82% more likely to drink heavily if our colleagues do.
Eating and drinking has from the beginning of time been a social activity, as much as it is necessary for energy and sustenance.
