Herbalife was founded by Mark Hughes, who had a passion for helping people to be healthy. The Herbalife promise came about through the death of the mother of Mark. She died at the age of 36 from unsafe dieting and diet subscription pills. Even though Mark was a teenager at the stage, he vowed to help people find a way to diet and loose weight safely. The passion Mark had for developing Herbalife as we know it by name today, took him on a journey to China, where he studied the nutritional benefits of herbs. Mark started renting office space and developed a network of Distributors who were excited and inspired by his vision, and who were just as passionate about his products. Mark's belief was in the power of people to change lives, and he encouraged others to share in that belief. "Have faith in your organization to know that it's going to work", was one of his sayings.

Along with the healthy diet and weight loss products, Marks' products started to include personal care products so that people could have the unique benefits of a personalized program for a lifetime of well-being. He succeeded in moving people with a vision for a healthier world and the fact that one person really can make a difference in the world. Mark passed away twenty years after starting the Herbalife product range and company, but his vision for changing people's lives is just as strong as ever. There are over one million Herbalife Distributors today in the world who are helping people reach greater heights of health and wellness.
