products mentioned in this overview of cholesterol.
The human body produces a fat type that we call
cholesterol. An acceptable level of this type
of fat is required for sustaining normal health.
Bad cholesterol is however, caused by eating food
that contains the wrong kind of cholesterol, which
can lead to heart diseases and other related illnesses.
Contact your Herbalife Distributor to learn more
about health food supplements that help control
bad cholesterol.
A too high level of cholesterol creates fat deposits
that may lead to blood vessels being blocked,
which in turn can result in inhibited flow of
blood to the heart. As a result, a person may
experience chest pains, shortness of breath, and
can face the risk of a heart attack. Contact your
Herbalife Distributor about Cardio ToconOx®
for cardiovascular health.
What are the causes?
Too little exercise results
in fat build-up in the body. This combined with
a diet rich in animal and other types of fat,
and exposure to pollutants, form the breeding
ground for high cholesterol. Overweight and obese
people struggle with this condition because they
have too much fat deposited in their bloodstreams.
Other factors that can contribute to dangerous
levels of cholesterol include genetic inheritance
and diabetes. Problems with the correct functioning
of the kidney, liver, and thyroid can also lead
to this condition. Bodybuilders and sportsmen
who use steroids frequently suffer from high cholesterol.
What is good cholesterol?
Protein particles carry cholesterol through the
blood. The bad fat is carried on low density lipoprotein
that deposits it in the walls of arteries, while
the good cholesterol can be found in the high
density protein. This protein retrieves and takes
the cholesterol to the liver. If the lipoprotein
level becomes too high in relation to the level
of the high density protein, serious health problems
can occur.
Saturated food
If you eat too much saturated
food, it leads to an increase of bad cholesterol
production in the liver, where both types are
produced. Cholesterol doesn’t affect everyone.
Some people have a higher tolerance than other
because their livers are better adapted to handle
the saturated food.
Diseases and symptoms
Unfortunately most of the symptoms go unnoticed
unless a health crisis occurs. Yellow colored
skin under the eyes can be an indication of liver
dysfunction and an extremely high level of cholesterol.
Chest pains, fatigue, lack of concentration, memory
loss, high blood pressure, and weight gain, can
also be indications of high cholesterol.
Health risks
Heart attacks in many cases, are caused by high
cholesterol because the artery walls become blocked
This is known as arteriosclerosis. The blocked
vessels prevent blood circulation, which in turn
causes the heart attack. Contact your Herbalife
Distributor for more information about health
supplements that contain Vitamin C, which helps
to keep cholesterol low.
Strokes are caused in the same manner. Oxygen
cannot reach the brain due to a blocked vessel.
Apart from these two very serious conditions,
the partly blocked blood vessels in other parts
of the body can also cause health problems, such
as liver disease and lameness in the arms or legs.
Men with high cholesterol sometimes suffer from
prostate dysfunction.
High blood pressure is also a result of high
cholesterol. Cholesterol deposited in the artery
walls cause a narrower space for blood flow. The
heart then has to work extremely hard to get blood
to the rest of the body.
Eating Habits
Reduce intake of food types that cause high cholesterol,
including: cookies; cake; fried food; certain
margarines; palm oil; animal fat, and food fried
in oil that has already been damaged by excessive
heat. Eat olives and fish to get Omega 3. Contact
your Herbalife Distributor for more information
about Herbalifeline®, which contains Omega
3 for cardiovascular health.
Even though eggs and liver are rich in protein,
you should limit your intake of these food types
to a maximum of three servings a week. Protein
is needed for muscle forming and carrying oxygen
in the blood. Try to get extra protein from a
supplement and through the consumption of lean
meat. Contact your Herbalife Distributor for more
information on Formula 3 Personalized Protein
Powder.
Eat food high in fiber as it helps to keep cholesterol
low, for instance, fruit, wholegrain bread, and
cereals, as well as vegetables. Contact your Herbalife
Distributor for more information about Florafibre.
